Chinese employee sacked for excessive loo breaks causes online debate

A Chinese employee was dismissed from his job due to spending up to six hours a day in the restroom, leading to a widely discussed court case. Despite citing chronic health issues as the reason for his frequent bathroom visits, a Chinese court ruled the dismissal as valid and the employee was not reinstated.

The case dates back to 2015 when the company decided to dismiss an employee, named Wang, in September. Wang used to spend six hours daily in the restroom during working hours. Although he explained that he had health issues, it was reported that Wang had undergone surgery for haemorrhoids in December 2014 but still experienced ongoing symptoms, causing him to visit the restroom frequently each day. This began in July 2015, with Wang spending between three to six hours in the restroom.
