Chiang Rai Police Squad Seize Almost 600 Kilograms of Illicit Substances

A Chiang Rai police squad intercepted 591 kilograms of narcotic substances before they could be distributed to local drug dealers.

On October 3rd, 2023, Pol. Lt. Gen. Sarayut Sanguanphokai, commander of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB), revealed that Chiang Rai NSB units conducted an operation successfully capturing 4 drug smugglers only identified as Mr. Suthisak, 22 years old, Mr. Chatchai, 19 years old, Mr. Pairat, 24 years old, and Mr. Thinpat, 27 years old and seized 591 kilograms of methamphetamine.

From an ongoing operation from NSB units confiscating meth and heroin in a mass number of locations in Bangkok and Southern Thailand, a further investigation discovered a connection to an alleged drug trafficker named Mr. Udomsak, who is Hmong. The investigators received information on drug trafficking using a convoy including 3 pickup trucks and 1 motorcycle that had been setup by Udomsak.


The operation was on October 1st, 2023, and sources reported that the suspects would smuggle narcotic substances from Phayao to Chiang Rai. Chiang Rai NSB units successfully captured 4 drug smugglers and seized 30 sacks of meth hidden inside pickup trucks, a total of 591 kilograms.

Relevant police officers will conduct a further investigation to gather evidence and capture other involved individuals to hold them accountable for their crimes, including Udomsak.
