Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai – too far for one night? maybe taking the bus..

I’m currently in Chiang Mai but would like to see Wat Rong Khun. It’s clearly too far for a day trip. I understand there are buses from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai.

Do you reserve seats on these buses? I would get the V class as these are apparently the quickest. Do the buses stop at Chiang Rai bus terminal 2 as that seems closer to the wat?

Is going for one night (staying in central Chiang Rai) enough time to combine the wat with 1-2 other attractions in the area? Before heading back down to Chiang Mai, as I have accommodation here already until next week.

Any other tips/comment about Chiang Mai to Chaing Rai welcome!
