Chanathip injury worsens, could miss WC qualifiers

Thailand national football team suffered another setback in their bid to qualify for the third and final phase of the Asian qualifiers for the 2022 Fifa World Cup when crafty playmaker Chanathip Songkrasin was advised a two-week rest after aggravating a painful knee injury.

The Thai team are training in Dubai where they play their remaining three Group G matches of Asia’s second qualifying stage for Doha 2022, starting June 3.

The 27-year-old Chanathip, who is playing for J-League club Consadole Sapporo, now looks very likely to pull out of the Thai squad after his injury worsened while training with his club on Wednesday.
