Burger King Thailand — which recently went viral for offering an extremely literal “cheeseburger,” consisting of nothing more than 20 slices of American processed — is back in the news again with another Whopper of a social media stunt.
Say hello to the “Real Meat Burger” — three patties on a bun, no frills. No pickles, onions, lettuce, ketchup, cheese — nothing. And if three plain patties isn’t enough, customers can add as many extras as they want — for a price.
The brand’s official Thailand social channels posted variations of the new item, with one featuring a whopping 100 patties, which Thai food blogger Believe Me, I Already Ate (เชื่อกู กูแดกมาแล้ว) took on, Today reported.
According to the blogger, who posted a video chronicling his successful attempt to order the sandwich, the 100-patty burger cost him 10,039 baht (about $291.51).
Available only in Thailand, customers can buy the basic, three patty meat-wich for 339 baht (about $9.79). Extra patties are an additional 100 baht (about $2.89) each.
The chain is clearly eager to reproduce the viral success of the so-called “Real Cheese Burger,” announced on July 17. Since then, Burger King Thailand’s social media team have been joking with fans about other equally absurd sandwich ideas. Each new creation focused on just one burger topping: the “real pickle burger,” “real tomato burger,” “real onion burger,” “real lettuce burger” and “real bun burger.”
The charade has continued as the chain introduced more burgers in the comments: the “real sauce burger,” “real mayonnaise burger,” “real sesame burger” and “real BBQ burger.”
The Real Meat Burger, however, which appears to have been created in response to a serious fan request, is no joke.
Burger King marketing teams in various countries have definitely been having it their way lately — Burger King Brazil sent shockwaves around the globe after debuting a limited-edition pink “Barbie” burger, in honor of the blockbuster film.
“I can already feel the stomach pains,” one dubious follower snarked.
