Banpu Power has invested in the Nakoso IGCC power plant in Fukushima which achieved its commercial operation date of April 16 this year.
Banpu Power (BPP), the power generation arm of non-oil energy conglomerate Banpu, expects to close a deal to build gas-fired power plants in the US by the second or third quarter.
Gas-fired power plants in the US have high business potential because they can easily link with a network of gas pipelines that expand across the country, said BPP chief executive Kirana Limpaphayom.
“The new assets are expected to have a capacity of more than 1,000 megawatts [MW]. BPP aims to share a stake of around 20-25% in the gas fired power plants,” he said.
The new plants will be based on both fossil fuels and renewable resources.
