Bangkok wakes to rain and dark, flooded roads

Commuters awoke to pounding rain Wednesday morning and were confronted by snarled traffic and roads cosplaying as canals.

The highest rainfall was recorded in the downtown Watthana district, where 83 millimeters of rain was recorded. Heavy rainfall also hit the Lat Krabang, Bang Na, and Phra Khanong areas.

Flooding was reported on roads throughout the capital:

Heavy flooding was reported around parts of Udom Suk, not far from Sukhumvit Road.

Streets were also flooded in several locations along Phatthanakan Road in the Suang Luang district, including the Thavorn Thawat Tunnel, and around sois Phatthanakan 25 and 30.

Along Srinakarin Road between sois Bearing and Lasalle.

The water was also deep outside the Imperial World Samrong shopping mall on Sukhumvit Road, just over the border in Samut Prakan.
