When you get down to the nitty gritty in football it is goals that spectators really want to see and last week the Premier League didn’t disappoint. The clubs outdid themselves with a record 45 goals being scored in the 10 games over the weekend. This beats the 44 on two weekends in 2020 and 2023.
Scene of the biggest goal rush was St James’ Park where Newcastle United and Luton Town shared eight in a 4-4 thriller in which both sides were disappointed not to take all three points. It was a particularly impressive performance by the improving Hatters who at one stage were leading 4-2.
