Are problems at Manchester United simpler than we think?

Football analysts blame tactics, the “greedy” board or “overrated” players for the inconsistency that is costing Manchester United, one of the world’s most popular teams, dearly.

But what if those factors are not entirely at fault and there is a bigger villain that has somewhat escaped attention — the fans.

When United forward Marcus Rashford tore through Trent Alexander-Arnold for fun during the “Red War” showdowns in the early days of Juergen Klopp’s reign and the Liverpool young right back was accused of being one of the weakest links in his team, impatient noises reverberated calling for the Anfield youngster’s head.

Alexander-Arnold could have ended up like Memphis Depay or Angel Di Maria, who were booted out of Old Trafford only to flourish elsewhere.
