AirAsia Group Bhd. has proposed to acquire two fintech units from Indonesian startup Gojek for $50 million.
AirAsia plans to buy Velox Technology (Thailand) Co., which provides mobile applications to connect individual drivers, merchants and other service providers, for $40 million, it said Wednesday.
The airline will also acquire Velox Fintech Co., which offers electronic money services, for $10 million.
The Velox Fintech acquisition will be done via its subsidiary AirAsia Superapp Sdn. Bhd.
AirAsia will fund the purchase by issuing new AirAsia Superapp shares.
Following the acquisition, Gojek unit Velox South-East Asia Holdings Pte. Ltd. will own a 4.76% stake in AirAsia Superapp, while AirAsia Group will own the rest.
