AirAsia Buys Gojek Thailand for US$50mn

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Group Berhad officially acquired the Gojek‘s Thailand business through their subsidiary, AirAsia Digital, for a transaction value of US$50 million.

After the acquisition, Gojek services in Thailand will be taken over by the AirAsia super app, managed by AirAsia Digital.

“By taking on Gojek’s well-established Thai business, we’ll be able to turbo-charge our ambitions to be the leading super app challenger in ASEAN,” AirAsia Chief Executive Tony Fernandes said on Wednesday, July 7.

AirAsia announced the acquisition via the Malaysia Stock Exchange, stating that the acquisition value reached a total of US$50 million.

Information on Gojek’s share ownership in the AirAsia super app was also revealed in AirAsia’s written statement. Now, Gojek is said to have share ownership in the super app, which now has a market value of US$1 billion.
