Thrilling start to Ashes series
Before the 2023 Ashes series against Australia started, England captain Ben Stokes vowed that “the most important thing is that spectators will be entertained.”
The classic first Test at Edgbaston certainly lived up to all the hype. It was a thrilling match which had just about everything, providing great drama on every day.
Of course there was one vital ingredient missing from England’s point of view — it ended in a nail-biting defeat against their old foes.
Having won 11 of their previous 14 Tests, the defeat was particularly hard to take for England.
Nonetheless, if the next four matches in the series are anything like that, cricket fans are in for a treat.
