WTH~ Are smoke detectors supposed to have these plastic things over them for condos in Bangkok?

Been living here a good five months and looking good up at the ceiling again I can see the sprinklers with the red liquid that will bust when the right amount of heat triggers it. And the smoke detector with the red plastic covering, which upon closer inspection looks like it was installed with the protective casing… wait, so how would it actually detect smok…?

There are like two tiny perforations in the plastic covering near the base, but they look like they were put on as part of the plastic for manufacturing the plastic, not to provide ventilation of air from the room to the device…

I’ve visited one human’s room here and it definitely smelled like an ash tray, but I assumed they covered or disabled the smoke detectors themself—not that the building maintenance did so by default.

Am I missing something here? If there was an actual fire am I right to think these suckers are duds? Do buildings do this knowing residents smoke or smth? Will my bathroom drain ever stop farting toxic gas? Seriously. Death seems closer and now looking up at the ceiling I have a blaring reminder of why…

Sincerely,
Seeking Sabai
