I feel like the peak of (primarily action) Thai movies that take place in the Ayutthaya era was from the 2000s-2010s. Movies like Suriyothai, the King Naresuan series, Ong Bak 2/3, Khan Kluay/KK2, Yamada: Samurai of Ayodhaya, Bang Rajan, etc. were essentially the peak of Ayutthaya-era movies.
Will there likely be more movies that are similar to the ones above? I know about some lakorn like Sri Ayodhaya and Bhuppesaniwat but they’re not really action-based. I guess there’s Broken Sword Hero but I’m not sure that counts as Ayutthaya-era.
Personally I’ve always wanted a movie where Tony Jaa plays a badass Jaturongabat warrior who defendd King Naresuan and Chao Phraya Chaiyanuphap during Songkram Yutahatti by using Muay Boran and Daab Song Mue. If I had enough money and influence, I would absolutely try to make a movie like that happen.
