Why do shirts even exist in Thailand?

Every country struggles with something. After 15 years, I can safely generalize that many Thais have no idea to wear a shirt.

My FIL is always walking around shirtless. At home or if we go out, it didn’t matter. Always no shirt. The only time I saw him wear a shirt was when we went to a funeral but then when we go outside the temple one of the first things he does is take his shirt off. I told him to put the shirt on, it’s a formal event and he’s embarrassing us but he didn’t understand. I just shake my head. He still has no shirt on.

Of course, when a Thai tells me ron mai, I agree with them, but I keep my shirt on!

Reasons for wearing a shirt…… tried teaching these concepts for years. You can get a sunburn and skin cancer, and no one wants to see your fat belly sticking out. 5% gets it, 30% maybe, and the other 99.99% has no idea. (How the fuck do percentages work?)

I would like to say Thais struggle with clothing in general, but that might be only with funerals; therefore, I’ll let the comments deal with that one. I wasn’t giving orders, but I don’t understand this. Just…. wear….. a…. shirt…. YES, to a funeral.
