Why do most Thais use 95 octane rather than 91?

As the title says, I’m just wondering why most vehicle owners seem to fill up with 95. Also it’s always the one that attendants offer by default. Just a random question stemming from my experience at gas stations.

Thais are usually quite practical, so I’m a bit surprised at this since 91 is good enough for the vast majority of vehicles today, and is of course cheaper. This is especially true for motorcycles, for instance mine from 2017 only requires 87 octane fuel or above.

Any insights on this, or should I just chalk it up to people doing it out of habit?
