Where are some interesting neighborhoods, places and/or cafes to check out that are off train lines more on the outskirts of the city?

\*Please let me know if this belongs in r/ThailandTourism \- but hoping to get more answers from locals and people familiar with cafes, places of interest on the outskirts of the city so I thought the city reddit would be more appropriate\*

Hi all, I lived in Bangkok from 2016-2018, so I’m pretty familiar with the city. I’m here visiting my partner, who works in the day from 9-6pm, so I’m looking for things to do to occupy myself during the day rather than just chill in an apartment, even if it’s just for a couple hours. I’m also learning Thai, so I often like going to coffee shops with places to sit and study for 1-2 hours or work on personal things on my laptop. Some of the coffee shops though are more for Instagram and not sitting, so I much prefer places that are a not super crowded and a bit more comfy to just sit and study/read/whatever.

For me, I just love exploring all over Bangkok….I love random sois and everything about it. I’ve done many of the touristy things, and really like exploring the more outskirts of the train lines. When I lived here, the MRT was Hua Lamphong to Chatuchak and the BTS was only from Bearing to Chatuchak. Now that I’m here, I’d love to check out some areas I now have access to on the train. I just took the yellow line to Bang Kapi and had a blast getting off at a random stop and going to a café. I’d love to get out to other areas on the Blue, Red, Purple, Yellow lines, etc. Also down to take busses and motorcycle taxis around.

The one condition is no food places – just looking for cafes and random places of interest. I have celiac disease and am strictly gluten free (one major reason I moved back home), so most Thai food is a no no, except som tam and some random Thai desserts. I often go to Vistacafes because they have coffee AND gluten-free cakes.

1. Are there any good places of interest and cafes to chill in and work in for a couple hours around Bangkok that I might check out?

2. I often feel bad for ordering just a coffee and no food at cafes – feels like paying 60-80 baht to chill for two hours is being cheap, but that’s normally what a coffee costs. Are most cafes okay with this? I wish I could order food and pay more, but alas….I can rarely eat the food.

Thanks all!
