Weather Alert – Hurricane Grace – Category One (August 19, 2021)

Location:  Mexican States of Campeche, Quintana Roo, and Yucatan

Event:  Hurricane Grace is a category-one hurricane approaching the Yucatan Peninsula and is expected to make landfall in the early morning of August 19.  Mexico has issued a hurricane warning for the Yucatan Peninsula.  Heavy rains, strong winds, and heavy surf are expected, which could cause life-threatening flash floods.  In addition, dangerous storm surges are possible that could raise water levels near the coast and be accompanied by large and dangerous waves.

The U.S. Consulate General in Merida and the consular agencies in Cancun and Playa del Carmen will have limited operations with no routine public services.  The state of Quintana Roo has issued a curfew starting at 8:00 p.m. on August 18 in the municipalities of Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cozumel, and…
