Want to stay for 90 days, what are my options? Border hop twice to extend 30-day Visa Exemption Program entry 2X to equal 90 days or can I get a tourist visa online from my ‘local Thai embassy’ that is over 1,000 miles away?

See title.

I want to stay 90 days, that’s the goal.

I’ve read that Americans do not need a pre-arranged visa and can show up, and get their passport stamped in immigration at the airport? But for 30 days, then need to renew again for 30 days after leaving the country and coming back in? Is that correct?

Perhaps I’m blind but I don’t see it here: https://th.usembassy.gov/

On another site I read:

>Upon arriving in Thailand, most nationalities who are part of the Visa Exemption Program may stay for up to 30 days. Certain nationalities can arrive as part of this program, but for a shorter time. It is best to check the country exemption list and confirm how long you can visit Thailand without needing to apply for a Visa.

>Tourists arriving under visa exemption are eligible to extend their stay for up to a further 30 days by visiting a local Thai Immigration Office. The cost to extend is approximately 2000 baht.

So… I need to arrive, on day 29 probably should head towards Cambodia or Laos or something, cross the border and re-enter Thailand? I can do that more than once? What happens if I miss the deadline due to something like travel issues (train / transport failure within Thailand) or something? Say it’s day 30 exactly, is that too late? Day 31 I show up at the border to leave Thailand and enter Cambodia (for example), what happens if overdue a day?

I read about the tourist visa but it requires a visit to my ‘local’ Thai embassy? The nearest one to me is well over 1,000 miles away. Can it be done online?
