‘Vaccines Bring Us Closer’: Now more than ever

World Immunisation Week, observed annually in the final week of April, this year gives us all pause – amid the still-unwavering COVID-19 pandemic and the global struggle to secure sufficient vaccines to meet demand – that it is no less essential, regardless, to be ready and willing to be vaccinated as soon as the opportunity arises.

If the vast majority of the population is not fully vaccinated, there can be no sufficient protection against COVID and its variants – or for that matter against other diseases. 

As one of the modern civilisation’s greatest medical achievements and one of the most cost-effective public health interventions, vaccination can prevent more than 20 life-threatening diseases and save 2-3 million lives yearly, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).
