United States puts Thailand on ‘avoid travel’ list

The coronavirus is now spreading fast enough in Thailand that it has been flagged as a place people should avoid visiting.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, added Thailand yesterday to a list of countries experiencing the worst outbreaks that Americans should reconsider traveling to.

Thailand is now categorized a Level 4 nation in its four-tier system, which means travelers who still must travel should, per the CDC, wear face masks, stay 2 meters apart and be fully vaccinated before travel. At Level 3, the CDC simply discouraged unvaccinated people from traveling unnecessarily.

But its advice for travel to nations deemed Level 4 suggests that even fully vaccinated visitors are at risk of getting and spreading COVID-19 variants.
