Two insurgents killed in clash with security forces in Pattani

Two southern insurgents were shot dead by Thai government forces in a clash in Nong Chik district of the southern province of Pattani on Wednesday.

A combined army, police and defence volunteer force was dispatched to Village 6, in Tha Kamcham sub-district, to lay siege to a house where two insurgents were thought to be hiding.

The authorities used a loud hailer to tell the two insurgents to surrender, but they refused and opened fire, sparking a fierce firefight.

When the gunfire subsided, the security forces moved in and found the two insurgents lying dead on the floor. An AK47 assault rifle and one 9mm pistol were found.

Police said that four arrest warrants had been issued for each of the two insurgents.
