Truckies ask court to stop daytime ban on city entry

Operators of l arge commercial vehicles will ask the Administrative Court to overturn a ban on them entering the capital city during daytime, which the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has prescribed in a bid to reduce air pollution.

“If the governor does not revoke this order, then we will go to the Administrative Court because the rule clearly shows double standards,” said Thongyoo Khongkhan, adviser of Land Transportation Federation and Imports-Export Transport Association.

“Hazardous smoke does not only come from trucks. Other road vehicles, including buses, also release toxic emissions.”

He said the trucks ban would impede the economic recovery and gravely affect the logistics and export sectors, who have already been affected by the coronavirus.

The BMA issued policies to tackle PM2.5 earlier this month.
