Transgender Woman Arrested for Stealing 300,000 Baht Gold Necklace From Chinese Tourist in Pattaya



Pattaya, Thailand-

A 29-year-old transgender woman was arrested in Pattaya after stealing a 300,000 baht gold necklace from a Chinese tourist on Christmas Day. The suspect admitted to the theft and has paid the tourist back for the worth of the stolen necklace.

The victim talks to Pattaya tourist police about the crime.

The incident took place on December 25th, 2023, at 3:50 A.M. near Wat Chai on South Pattaya Road. The victim, Mr. Yu Chao, 36, had been walking back to his hotel after a night out when approached by a transgender woman offering companionship, according to him.

Mr. Chao declined the offer of companionship but stated the suspect continued to hug and touch him before he walked away. Shortly after, Mr. Chao found that his gold necklace that he says was worth 300,000 baht had been taken.

Mr. Chao reported the incident to the Chinese Embassy who with the assistance of a translator contacted the Pattaya police station. Since Christmas Pattaya police and tourist police have investigated the incident, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Piyaphong Ensarn.

The suspect identifies themself as the person seen on CCTV during the incident.

On January 4th, 2024, police were able to successfully identify the suspect as Wichai Chueaphrasong, age 29, a resident of Nong Hin District, Loei Province. The positive identification came from careful review of CCTV in the area of the incident. A court warrant was issued and on January 5th Wichai was arrested.

Wichai admitted to the theft and although the necklace had been pawned and sold agreed to repay the victim the full amount of the stolen necklace. Mr. Chao was pleased with this settlement, however, police stated that Wichai would still be charged with burglary by night and face various legal charges and penalties in relation to the theft.
