To what extent are Mosquitoes at rice fields a problem

I’m actually planning a visit in Vietnam (I left Thailand a few weeks ago) but they don’t have a strictly tourism sub.

My GF hates mosquitoes and spends most evenings drenched in repellent. I’m really keen to cycle around a few rice paddies in beautiful scenery but don’t want to undercook how serious the mosquito situation is.

Any help from people who have been to rice paddies in SE Asia would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
