This Day In History, January 25th, 2022 – “Thailand Declares War”

It was just 80 years ago today, January 25, 1942 when the Nation of Thailand declared War on the United States and Great Britain.

Thailand, historically known as Siam, would be one of the few allies for the Japanese during the Second World War. I cannot say just how enthusiastic the Thai People were to join the Japanese Empire, the Capitol of Bangkok was occupied on the first day of the War by the Japanese Army invading from Indochina, the French colony the Japanese took over the previous summer. Throughout the War the Japanese would use bases in Thailand for their operations to conquer South East Asia, and in turn would be targets for Allied air raids.
