The hard to 3-4 timing is still trending

MODERN entertainment in its short history was about acoustic guitars, ukuleles and an improvised rattles from a collection of beer bottle lids. When they exploded, the sound brought running feet.

The string band could be any number of people coming together to sing as a group. And the beat that got hearts pulsating was known as the three-four timing; popular with the European Waltz and it was introduced in colonial times by early missionaries.

Waltzes were popular in the Northern Province for instance, where most of the missionaries were either British, Australians, Canadians or New Zealanders. It almost resonated with the monotones of the Kundu drum which could have been the first attraction and then when the key changed with the tempo, it produced the thrill. From there the popularity settled permanently; as it were.
