Thais won’t be taxed on aid and rebates received from government programs: cabinet

Thais have entered tax season and are now taxed with the complicated undertaking of determining what counts as revenue. To help settle the confusion, the government has clarified that taxes need not be paid on money received from the government’s aid or rebate programs.

After a rumor spread that individuals would get taxed on relief programs (funded by their own taxpayer money), the cabinet has ruled that free from taxation will be the THB3,500 (US$117) in aid money that Thais get to spend on daily products and food, as well as the rebates and vouchers received from booking hotels and flights in a domestic travel stimulus plan, government spokesperson Rachada Thanadirek confirmed last night.
