Taps in resorts at the holiday destination are running out of water, thereby leading to the loss of visitors here.
If reports are to go by, authorities are working tirelessly to ensure that the island, famed for its ancient hotels, white sandy beaches, and luxury resorts, doesn’t turn into a ‘disaster zone.’

Also, many water reserves, including the Phuru Kraud and Phru Na Mueang reservoirs and Hin Lad waterfall, have witnessed a visible dip in their water levels, which has further deepened the freshwater crisis.
With an increasing number of visitors and limited rainfall, the island is struggling to secure water supply, making conservation efforts crucial for sustainability. Referring to the pressing issue, the island’s Deputy Mayor, Sutham Samthong, urged residents and tourists alike to use water sparingly.

The El Niño phenomenon, which is a climate pattern, happens when the waters in the eastern Pacific Ocean get unusually warm, which could likely further add to the island’s drinking-water concerns in the coming months.
