Thailand works with junta authorities to bring stranded Thais home

Fighting between the Myanmar military and the Brotherhood Alliance made up of three ethnic armed groups has been raging since Friday (October 27) across a swathe of Myanmar’s northern Shan state, AFP reported on Thursday.

The area is where a billion-dollar rail link is planned as part of Beijing’s Belt and Road global infrastructure project and is populated with Thais and other foreigners.

A Myanmar junta spokesman said on Thursday that clashes have taken place at 10 locations across Shan state over the past six days, without giving details on casualties.

Srettha said the embassy officials have helped move the 162 Thais to a safe area and are working on a plan to bring them home as soon as possible.
