The Thai Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reported on Sunday (December 31st), a total of 71 deaths, 739 injuries, and 724 road accidents in two days (December 29th – December 30th) of the New Year Seven Days Road Safety campaign in Thailand (December 29th, 2023 to January 4th, 2024).
The highest total number in two days (December 29th – December 30th) of road accidents was in Khon Kaen (31 times). The province with the highest number of injuries were Khon Kaen and Tak (30). The highest fatalities were in Prachin Buri and Bangkok (5 deaths).
The DDPM reported on the second day of the campaign (December 30th) that there were 37 deaths and 404 injuries in 385 road accidents.
Accidents were mostly caused by excessive speeding (34.55%), followed by drunk driving (22.60%).
Most accidents involved motorbikes (85.29%). Thirty-eight percent of road accidents occurred most on national highways. Most accidents occurred between 6:01 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. (9.61%).
The highest number of accidents and injuries was in Tak, the west of Thailand (18 times and 18 injuries). The province with the highest number of fatalities was Bangkok (4 deaths).
