Thailand confirms high infection numbers

Thailand reported a record 959 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday.

Health officials say most of the cases were among migrant workers from Myanmar, and confirmed this with a thorough inspection of the epicenter of a recent infection cluster.

Thailand has been experiencing a resurgence of infections since a large-scale outbreak last month at a seafood market near Bangkok. The government says Tuesday’s surge is the result of active testing.

Meanwhile, workers gathered in front of the prime minister’s office in Bangkok on Tuesday. They say the current economic support measures are inadequate and demanded further support from the government.
Thailand ordered the closure of schools and entertainment venues in early January, including bars and karaoke clubs, in areas with high infection numbers.
