Thai residents being very rude and unwelcoming – wondering why?

Hello all,

I’ve arrived today in an area of Bangkok (Lat Krabang, directly next to the airport). I have only been here for a matter of hours but i have been refused entry to 3 bars/restaraunts, i have been met with laughter and mocking whenever I try and (kindly) ask if any stalls/shops would sell me a bottle of water, have been entirely ignored or laughed at when asking if i would be allowed to purchase something, and so on…

Just a moment ago i glanced over at a bar next door, made eye contact with a Thai staff member and they all instantly grouped up and started throwing dirty looks and laughing!

Luckily me and my partner are only here for a quick 3 night stop off before our flight – but it’s quite a shame that we feel unsafe/uncomfortable stepping outside our hotel for a bite to eat!

I was wondering if anyone would have any idea why this could be? Is this a fault of ours? or have we just stumbled upon an area where foreigners are not accepted by the society here?

For reference me and my partner are both white British holidaymakers, if that means anything..?

Thanks!
