People really, really should not bring single-use plastic and styrofoam items into Thailand’s national parks, now that they face a theoretical fine of THB100,000 (US$3,000) as of today.
With tourists returning to Thailand’s much-trampled and littered nature spots, the department has tacked a serious fine onto a ban that’s been in place since 2018. According to details published yesterday in the Royal Gazette, the forbidden items include plastic bags less than 36 microns in thickness (pack a microscope) as well as single-use utensils.
“Do not bring containers made of foam. and single-use plastic packaging such as plastic bags less than 36 microns thick, plastic food containers, plastic glasses (thin, single use), plastic straws and plastic spoons and forks into national parks,” it read.
