Thai motorbike licence on student visa, possible?

Oh, another post about motorbike licence questions *sigh*… Hear me out;
Ive been traveling SEA and Thailand a lot past 2 years and riding bikes without a licence is just not smart. A licence in my home country will be £2000 and i just dont have that money, the ability to train, and i also have no intrest for bikes in this cold climate. So to the question;

I am headfing back to Thailand to study Thai and will get the student visa. While i have many friends who did the same, with benefits such as getting a lease agreement, bank account, ect, none of them have opted for getting a licence, as they are fine with drivng without one. I have read conclifting information about that it could be possible to get a Thai motorbike licence, but have no concrete answers. So i am wondering if any of you have been able to get a licence in Thailand on only the student visa? Surely i cant be the only one wanting to get a “proper” motorbike license…

Second question, where i have alse heard conflicting information, is a Thai issued licence legal within the rest of the ASEAN countries? Or do you need something simular to a IDC for your Thai licence?

And yes, the best solution is to get one at home, i am fully aware, but this is not an option at the moment. Looking for the next best thing, and as i spend time in Thailand yearly, i just dont want to ride without one anymore.

Thanks in advance!
