Thai Male Cops Allowed to Have Longer Hair

National —

In a decision that may bring joy to fashion-conscious police officers, the newly appointed national police chief of Thailand has signed a new regulation to allow male officers to have longer hairstyles.

National police chief Pol Gen Torsak Sukvimol explained his recent directive, stating that it would help officers reduce the cost of getting a haircut, and of course, it’s not for fashion.

The revised regulation scraped the 2018 police uniform practice code that mandated every male police officer must maintain a very short hair style with both sides and the back of the head completely shaved.

According to the new code, male officers now have the right to maintain their hair lengths of up to 5 centimeters on the top of the head and no more than 1 centimeter on both sides in an orderly style.

Pol Gen Torsak said with the new rule, officers will not have to go to a barber once a week to keep their hair short.

Additionally, supervisors with the rank of superintendent or higher also have the authority to permit their subordinates, who are assigned to investigation, intelligence, narcotics suppression, or stationed in at-risk areas, to have a high-fade haircut.

As for female officers, they have been instructed to tie their hair with a black hairpin if it is long.
