Thai Grandfather Arrested for Allegedly Sexually Molesting Two Young Girls in Pattaya

Pattaya —

A grandfather was arrested on Tuesday, January 9th, after he allegedly sexually molested two young girls, aged only 4 and 7 years old, in Pattaya.

The girls’ mother, Ms. May (alias), 33, took the matter to Mrs. Paveena Hongsakul, president of the Thai Foundation for Children and Women, at 11 a.m. yesterday, alleging Mr. Man (alias), 47, reportedly sexually abused her two young daughters.

The suspect is a grandfather to the girls, to whom Ms. May entrusted her daughters. He was arrested by Nongprue police yesterday on charges of sexually abusing minors under 13-years-old.

According to Ms. May, she is an employee at a retail shop in the Pattaya area. Being a single mother, she has to take care of two children after having broken up with her husband. She usually asked her grandmother and grandfather to take care of her children while running errands.

Between December 17th and the 19th, 2023, Ms. May placed her daughters under the care of the grandmother and grandfather at their house. Then the grandfather dropped them off at Ms. May’s place on the morning of December 20th, as though nothing happened.

However, after a week, both daughters of Ms. May told her they felt pain in their genitalia. There was also a yellow stain on the older girl’s underwear, which led Ms. May to believe that they had been raped.

After talking to the girls, Ms. May was shocked to find that they had been raped by their grandfather since 2022. The grandfather would sometimes smoke cannabis and drink alcohol before committing the acts, Ms. May said.

A medical diagnosis of the older girl confirmed that she had been abused and had also been infected with an undisclosed STD. According to Mrs. Paveena Hongsakul, Mr. Man, the suspect, had been taken to the Nongprue Police Station yesterday and has been formally charged with rape.

Initially, both girls will be placed under special care at the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security’s Chonburi Office to receive medical and mental treatment until they recover.

The suspect has not yet released a statement to the press and remains in custody as of press time.
