Thai day care massacre site set to reopen

A daycare center in the northeast where dozens of children were killed will reopen tomorrow.

Teachers and local officials this morning performed a Buddhist merit-making ceremony at the Uthai Sawan child development center in Nong Bua Lamphu province before it welcomes kindergarteners again tomorrow.

The reopening will come nearly three months after a former police officer killed more than 30 people including 24 young children and a pregnant teacher on Oct. 6.

To tighten security, the day care center, starting tomorrow, will operate a van service that will shuttle children between home without their parents having to do so, according to Nanticha Panchum, chief of the daycare center.

Plans to demolish or move the center were ultimately rejected.
