Thai boy ‘accidentally’ shot in head by brother with dad’s rifle

Authorities in central Thailand are chalking the death of a 14-year-old boy shot in the back of the head while playing with his father’s hunting rifle as an accident.

Theeradej Papeera was found dead last night with a gunshot wound to the back of his head at his family’s single-story home in Phitsanulok province. His father, Anon Papeera, told the police that he had left their home to visit his sister, leaving Theeradej with his younger brother, 12-year-old Theerathorn.

The elder brother brought out his father’s hunting rifle, which was stored in the kitchen, to play. The police support Anon’s explanation that the gun slipped out of Theerathorn’s hand and fired a bullet that hit and killed Theeradej.
