Thai beef ball maker tells muslims it doesn’t add pork – but is investigating

A well-known producer of meatballs yesterday denied that it adds pork to beef balls after a muslim organization complained that it did. 

After the Central Islamic Council warned to avoid Numchai beef balls due to contamination with “pork DNA,” N.C. Food Production Co. Ltd. published an apology and promised an investigation. However, the producer denied in the same statement that it includes pork as an ingredient. 

“We insist that our company definitely does not use pork as an ingredient. The context of the term ‘Pork DNA’ may be caused by other factors,” it wrote in a statement. 

There’s a difference of course between not being a listed ingredient and ending up in a product anyway.

As the company itself said, while its inspections are underway, it will refrain from labeling its products as halal.
