Taxi rank overcharge from BKK

Well, I was going to use Bolt for 225 baht but instead I tried the BKK taxi rank. Total trip came to 425 baht including 50 surcharge.

Based on my various other taxi trips, this meter incremented faster. It was a van so I assume the driver inputted that he had lots of passengers so the meter would increment faster? In reality, there were only 2 passengers + driver.

I believe I pressed the button for a regular car so I am not sure why I was given a van who charged more.

Any ideas how I can avoid this in the future? I hate the idea of being in the car with the meter going up so fast. I didn’t think to take a photo of the guy’s taxi license card.

Also when I went back to the airport on the same route, of course the trip was roughly closer to 200 baht.
