Sustainable Waste-Disposal Center to be Established on Koh Larn

Pattaya —

A complete waste-disposal center will be established on Koh Larn, Pattaya, to address excessive garbage issues. Pattaya City has entered into a Public Private Partnership (PPP) contract with Smart Waste Management Company Limited for this project.

At the Pattaya City Hall, Mr. Poramase Ngampiches, the Mayor of Pattaya City, and the Executive Vice Chairman of Energy Absolute Company Limited Mr. Wasu Klomkliang co-signed the contract on construction of a complete waste-disposal center with Smart Waste Management.

The project aims to sustainably tackle the excessive garbage problem on Koh Larn with smart technology in order to reduce pollution.

At present, the administration is grappling with over 65,000 tons of garbage on the tourist island, which will expect to be increasing to 25 tons per day in the future.

The rising volume of waste also has consequences for residents, the environment, and Pattaya City’s tourism reputation.

The concession agreement spans 25 years, with the city agreeing to allow Smart Waste Management to handle the entire construction and operation of the waste-disposal center.

TPN media notes this project has been discussed for many years but stalled during the Covid-19 period in 2020 and was resumed in discussions in 2022, but also delayed due to a change in Pattaya’s mayor and leadership.
