Supanida, Aimsaard sisters advance in New Delhi meet

Supanida Katethong and women’s doubles pair Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn Aimsaard advanced to the quarter-finals of the US$900,000 India Open in New Delhi yesterday.

However, Ratchanok Intanon and mixed doubles stars Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai made early exits at the World Tour Super 750 event.

Supanida defeated Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland 21-17, 21-14 and will next play either Olympic champion Chen Yufei of China or Saina Nehwal of India.

Defending champions Benyapa and Nuntakarn moved through safely, defeating seventh seeds Lee So-Hee and Shin Seung-Chan of South Korea 21-18, 21-19.

They next face second seeds Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida of Japan in the last eight.

In the women’s singles event, Ratchanok went down to Carolina Marin 21-16, 21-16 and the Spaniard goes on to meet Japanese top seed Akane Yamaguchi, who defeated China’s…
