Hi all.
A few updates on the subreddit. We have updated the rules on the sub to reflect the community’s opinion from feedback we have been collecting. Please see the rule changes as follows:
* We have added “No tourism itineraries or asking very generic where to go threads.”. All threads created asking specifically to review their trip plans or where to go will now be removed. We don’t want to make this sub anti-tourist as tourists often ask questions that are useful for people living here too. At the same time there is no value for anyone here in the constant wave of review planning threads that spring up every holiday season so we’ll be putting a stop specifically to these types of threads as well as any threads along the lines of “coming on x, where do I go?”. If you see any you can use the report tool and mark them with this rule. I would ask for discretion and not just mass report any thread with a tourist in it. For example we think that if someone is asking about a specific activity in a specific area it is still relevant regardless if the thread mentions a date they’re coming to Bangkok. Our removal message contains a link to /r/ThailandTourism for this rule so you will no longer need to redirect people yourself in replies.
* We updated the “no begging” rule to also include strange requests and survey forms. It doesn’t happen often but sometimes someone will come in asking for someone to help them forward a package or some such. We feel that it is too dangerous for the community to allow such posts on the sub as people can unknowingly get involved in crime by helping forward on whatever it is. If someone comes in asking for how they can forward a package on or something similar that would not be removed, just the fishing for people on this sub to do it. With regards to surveys it’s a similar problem which has been pointed out to us that they’re often used for fishing for private information such as a person’s name and email to later bother them with marketing material and what have you. We don’t want to be the survey police and have to review each one manually so we’re just blanket banning any surveys from being posted on the sub.
