Students injured when wooden floor of a classroom gives way

Two students suffered bruises yesterday when the wooden floor of an aging school in Phanat Nikhom district, in the eastern province of Chon Buri, partially collapsed, throwing about 30 students onto the flooded ground a metre below.

Thirty Mathayom 1 (Year 8) students were attending an English language class when the floor of the 47-year-old Phanatpittayakarn School suddenly gave way under their weight.

Teachers rushed to extract the students, two of whom were slightly injured and taken to the district hospital for first-aid treatment.

The school’s director said that he had intended to repair the wooden floor after the final semester.
