Just waiting for some guy to finish editing a video so I am going to let get this off my chest.
I rarely meet other foreigners, I could easily go and sit with some guys once a week and I did for a good while but then one of them got cancer and watching him go through all that kind of put me off going to that haunt, he passed away last year.
So I knocked going to see the old fellas on the head, partly for the above reason, also because something similar may have been happening to another.
I have known this one guy for maybe 3 years, younger guy about 45 same as myself and I would regularly bump into him in the gym.
This guy would want to chat throughout, kind of defeating the whole point of going to the gym, for me anyway.
I did go out for a meal with him one time but then I moved to a different gym but still bump into him from time to time.
This guy whenever he see’s me he has all the time in the world can sit and chat for as long as he wants.
I am normally doing something when I bump into him, kind of trying to get away as have things to do.
I do not really understand why he wants to chat away to me for this long, he has my line, could easily suggest a time and a place for a coffee or something and catch up and have even mentioned this.
Same with line, he is happy to swap messages and text a fair bit but the idea of making a time and a place seems a bit alien to him.
I wonder if his behavior’s is strange or maybe I am the odd one for thinking meeting up and having a chat now and again is a better way to spend some time than adhoc 30 minute chinwags whenever they lay eyes on you.
Next Encounter was a really strange one, about 7 months ago an older guy about 64 joined the gym I go to.
Looked after himself well, was skinny but muscular, not your average older gent you see around town that is for sure.
I just nodded and said hello to begin and 5 months in, he approaches me complaining that a girl in the gym was rude to him as she had given him her line and when he tried to talk to her, she would not respond, on the line app.
Guy was venting at me outside the gym, had to calm him down, was a funny first time chatting to him.
I was a bit surprised as the girl is drop dead but one of the other guys told me later, she speaks no english and was just trying to help him as he was showing her his phone app etc. and literally pointing to her phone and his, I think she just wanted to solve the issue rather than get to know him.
When he eventually calmed down I talked to him and asked where he was from and he was evasive stating; all over really, had already clocked his Northern English accent but he was oddly trying to speak like he was from elsewhere.
Pointed out he was from somewhere like Cheshire with an accent like that and lo and behold his fake accent disappeared and he explained how he had lived all over the world.
I continued being polite and saying hello to him and eventually he approached me and started talking in the gym, being fairly normal, but trying to elude to stuff like conspiracies and religion.
Gathered after a few of these discussions he was a bit lonely, felt a bit sorry for him so just put up with his discussions and next thing I know, the guy is breaking down crying outside the gym because he is so lonely.
Had to really calm him down at this point, was awful, got him breathing etc.
Told the Mrs about it and decided would try and help him a bit and give him some ideas on how to meet some folks, then he just vanished.
Not seen him now for maybe 2 weeks and that’s odd given I would see him 3-4 times a week in the gym, spoke to the gym about him and they said he was in there twice a day sometimes upto 5 hours a day.
I never knew as I am in there for max 75 minutes every other day.
I guess my point is to this long winded account, what about the strange encounters you have had with other people, surely I am not just a magnet for this type of thing and you have had some strange occurrences too?
