‘Songkran in Thailand’ declared an UNESCO ‘intangible cultural heritage’

“Songkran in Thailand” added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list, joining other Thai traditions. The festival is celebrated in mid-April with water parties and family reunions.

## Songkran Festival Recognized by UNESCO

The traditional Thai New Year Festival, Songkran, has been recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The announcement was made at the 18th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Botswana. This prestigious recognition adds to Thailand’s previous listings, including “Khon” in 2018 and “Nuat Thai” in 2019.
