Smith wants to make BG Pathum title contenders

Newly-appointed BG Pathum United coach Matt Smith aims to turn the Rabbits into Thai League 1 title contenders every season.

The Australian, who played for BG from 2015–2018, was named coach of the club after Makoto Teguramori was sacked last week.

“My goal now is to make the team a title contender every season,” Smith told reporters yesterday.

“I want to see the players keep developing. We must have enthusiasm to win, and that is my target.”

However, he admitted that it could be difficult for the Rabbits to challenge for the league title this term.

After 11 games, BG are seventh on 18 points, nine behind leaders Buriram United.
