Small Boats Prohibited from Venturing Out into Pattaya Sea Due to Strong Waves, Boats Inspected at Bali Hai Pier

Pattaya —

Small boats have been prohibited from sailing in the Pattaya sea due to strong waves, according to the Marine Department, Pattaya Office.

The department raised a red flag halfway up the mast yesterday, December 25th, to warn small vessels, such as fishing boats, jet skis, speedboats, and towing boats, of strong waves, restricting them from leaving the shore.

Large fishing boats, while not explicitly banned, were urged to exercise caution and adhere to instructions issued by officials while navigating the choppy waters.

The raising of the warning flag was possibly in response to a previous incident last week, where a catamaran carrying 29 people, the majority being foreign tourists, capsized in the Pattaya bay near Dongtan Beach.

While all passengers were unharmed, Pattaya authorities immediately implemented measures to reinforce safety protocols during the holiday season.

At 9 AM yesterday, Pol. Lt. Gen. Piyaphong Ensan led a team of relevant authorities to examine boats at the Bali Hai Pier. During the inspection, authorities scrutinized operating licenses of each boat operator and also urged them to strictly adhere to safety measures for tourists, especially limitations on the number of passengers onboard, signs demonstrating on-boat behavior, and the necessity of life-saving equipment such as life jackets.

The authorities found no irregularities during the inspection but pledged to carry out a similar operation on a regular basis.
