So I finished dinner at Rawai and booked a Grab to go to my hotel in Karon. Driver arrives and we are about 10 minutes into the drive and we get to a police check point. The officer/soldier stops the driver and talks to him. All I could make out was farang. The officer shined the light on me and asks me to get out. He frisks me and goes through my belongings, does the same to my gf, non-Thai. After a bit he let us be on our way. I asked the driver what that was about. He responded they just check if tourists have drugs or are intoxicated. Is this normal, did I luckily escape a scam?
